Chain Smoking Chimp
At the local zoo we saw a chimp smoking cigarettes. When we glanced at the cage, we did a double take and then guffawed at the sight. This is a classic example of monkey see, monkey do. There were some kids in front of the cage that were tossing nuts to the chimp. He would catch them and eat them. Then, there was a man smoking a cigarette. He tossed the cigarette into the cage, and the chimp picked up the cigarette and started puffing! He was inhaling and blowing puffs of smoke. Fotunately my camera has a video button, and I captured this video. This is the funniest sight I have EVER seen at a zoo. It was worth the entire 10 bucks it cost our family to enter. Perhaps a better title for this blog is "Bad Day at the Zoo".

At the end of the video, the chimp seems to be coming back to the fence for more of his nicotine fix. You didn't pass off one of your extra Marlboro's, did you? I would have given him some gum... maybe the mothball flavored kind!

This is Sherry, and you know what an animal person I am, but by golly that guy is livin' the high life! Now what I want to see is this chimp pressuring other chimps to do it. Now THAT would be funny!
Sort of reminds me of the bear in the Smokey mountains. When I was a kid (not telling how long ago this story occured ;) we traveled with my grandparents to the Smokeys. There was a bear, in a small cage and for a price (maybe a $.25) you bought a Choc-Cola (who remembers this chocolate drink?) and the bear woudl drink it. Not sure that PETA would go for that now ...Kimberly
